About Us

Milton Keynes Bonsai Society

Established in 1986, Milton Keynes Bonsai Society has been bringing together people with an interest in bonsai for almost four decades.

Whether you are completely new to bonsai, developing your skills or have many years of experience, our Society provides a friendly and welcoming environment in which to learn, share ideas and enjoy the art of bonsai.
We believe bonsai is about much more than simply growing trees. It combines horticultural knowledge, creativity, patience and an appreciation of nature while providing a great opportunity to meet like-minded people and make lasting friendships.
What We Do

We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at Cosgrove Village Hall, from 7:00pm to 9:30pm.

Our meetings include practical workshops, demonstrations, presentations, tree critiques and seasonal advice, covering everything from basic bonsai care and repotting through to styling, wiring, pruning and preparing trees for exhibitions.
Members are encouraged to bring along their own trees and tools, work on their trees and share knowledge and ideas with other members.

Our programme includes experienced bonsai artists, growers and specialists who provide demonstrations and talks, helping members develop their skills and understanding at every level.
An Active Bonsai Society

There is much more to MKBS than our monthly meetings.
We are actively involved in the wider bonsai community and regularly take part in exhibitions, displays, events and public activities.

The Society has also contributed to larger events, including the Japanese Garden Society International Conference, where members have had the opportunity to display bonsai and share their knowledge with a wider audience.
We also organise promotional bonsai events at local garden centres, including Frosts Garden Centre, where members introduce visitors to bonsai, answer questions and demonstrate how to care for and develop bonsai trees.
These events provide a great opportunity to promote bonsai locally and encourage people who may be discovering bonsai for the first time to come along and find out more.

Members also have opportunities to participate in exhibitions, shows, displays, outings and other activities throughout the year.
Something for Everyone

Bonsai can seem complicated when you first start, but nobody needs to know everything before joining us.
Our members range from beginners taking their first steps in bonsai through to experienced enthusiasts with many years of knowledge.

Whether you have just bought your first tree, are looking for help with an established bonsai, or simply want to learn more about this fascinating art, you'll find people willing to share their experience.

We encourage members to learn from one another, experiment, ask questions and, most importantly, enjoy their trees.
Our Future

As Milton Keynes Bonsai Society continues to grow, our ambition is clear:
We want MKBS to become the best Bonsai Society in the UK!
We know that achieving this means continually developing what we offer our members and the wider community. We plan to do this through an exciting programme of workshops, demonstrations, exhibitions, events and activities, while continuing to welcome beginners and support members at every level.

We want MKBS to be recognised for the quality of its bonsai, the knowledge and enthusiasm of its members, the opportunities it provides, and the friendships it creates.

Our aim is not simply to grow the Society, but to build a club that members are proud to belong to and that makes a positive contribution to the wider UK bonsai community.

Whether your interest is in the horticulture, the artistic side, Japanese culture, displaying trees or simply enjoying time with fellow enthusiasts, we'd be delighted to welcome you to Milton Keynes Bonsai Society.

Cultivating Trees, Friendships and Knowledge.
